Maine Offshore Wind Supply Chain and Workforce Analysis
The emerging offshore wind industry has the potential to create thousands of jobs and business opportunities across the supply chain in the next decade and beyond. Coastal states are preparing to take advantage of this immense opportunity as both an energy transition and economic revitalization tool. In 2019, Governor Janet Mills launched the Maine Offshore Wind Initiative to identify opportunities for offshore wind development in the Gulf of Maine. Karp Strategies, under the leadership of Xodus and in partnership with VHB and BW Research Partners, is conducting an offshore wind supply chain and workforce analysis towards the Maine Governor’s Energy Office (GEO)’s Maine Offshore Wind Roadmap. Karp Strategies is conducting interviews and policy analysis to understand the state-wide business ecosystem, and from this, will recommend policies that help existing Maine businesses overcome supply chain barriers to market entry. Research highlights include best practices for recruiting new offshore wind-related businesses to Maine, and efforts that support the growth of small and M/W/DBE businesses.
