Helen Ho joined Karp Strategies with over a decade in senior leadership roles with the NYC Mayor’s Office, LaGuardia Community College, NYC Department of Parks and Recreation and at the helm of innovative, city-shifting non-profits. Across these roles, Helen has led and participated in consensus building processes on some of the city’s most controversial and city-changing projects or initiatives. She has expertly driven citywide initiatives from design to implementation - building partnerships, managing outreach, and developing strategy for bringing policy to action.
Helen’s practice at Karp Strategies is grounded in the ethos of informed stakeholder engagement, participatory planning and policy development, and equity and access. She marries a strong foundation of hands-on urban planning experience with public policy and project management acumen. Prior to joining Karp Strategies, Helen served as Director of External Affairs at LaGuardia Community College where she introduced new cultural and workforce development partnerships, managed relationships with local stakeholders and elected officials, and led lobbying and fundraising efforts. As Director of Queens for the NYC Mayor’s Office Community Affairs Unit, Helen created and executed an outreach plan for the entire borough while leading Mayor de Blasio’s special initiatives including Universal Pre-K, Vision Zero, Paid Sick Leave, and IDNYC. In this role, she worked to improve police-community relations, address homelessness, integrate affordable housing, and oversee rezonings throughout Queens. In her capacity as Development Director for Recycle-a Bicycle, Helen built strategic partnerships locally and nationally, managed communications for the non-profit, and coordinated membership and fundraising efforts.
Throughout her career, Helen has held leadership roles with IOBY (In Our Backyard), NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and NYC Department of Parks and Recreation. Recognized as a 40 Under 40 Rising Star by City and State, for her work supporting women and her outstanding environmental leadership by the New York City Council, and as a Top 15 Innovator in Queens by It’s Queens – the Magazine, Helen brings a wealth of experience and track record of excellence to the Karp Strategies team.
Helen holds a Masters degree in Urban Planning from Hunter College and sits on Queens Community Board 1. She is fluent in conversational Mandarin, is a Master Composter, and Founder of Tour de Queens, Transportation Alternatives Queens Committee, and Biking Public Project.
