The Brooklyn-Queens Connector (BQX) is a proposed 11-mile streetcar line running along the Brooklyn-Queens waterfront from Astoria to Red Hook, and will connect to 13 subway lines, 30 bus routes and 9 ferry landings. The BQX is projected to initially serve over 50,000 riders per weekday with potential to serve over 90,000 people on a daily basis. The next stage in the planning of the BQX is to undergo an environmental impact assessment. Karp Strategies was hired by the New York City Economic Development Corporation to design and deliver a stakeholder outreach program in partnership with VHB to advance the project’s EIS. Karp Strategies’ role is to inform the public and key stakeholders about the project, understand the EIS process, and create a platform to engage with local decision makers. The Karp Strategies team is working with the City to create an outreach program that reaches stakeholders along the route and in transit deserts, addresses concerns of access to an engagement process, keeps equity at the forefront, and presents technical information in a manner accessible to everyone.
