The Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation (SBIDC) is a leading economic development corporation that provides advocacy and services to industrial businesses in Sunset Park, Gowanus, and Red Hook. Increasingly, and particularly post- Hurricane Sandy’s devastation in SBIDC’s catchment area, SBIDC is providing services in the resiliency space. Karp Strategies analyzed SBIDC’s program materials, past strategic plan, and core mission materials. The firm designed and delivered a hands-on half-day workshop for SBIDC’s staff that allowed the organization to articulate and prioritize its resiliency activities, programs, and services, and determine which resiliency efforts were most critical to focus on in future narrative documents. Karp Strategies project deliverables included: program analysis; community development analysis and strategy; visioning workshop design and facilitation; resiliency and sustainability in the context of industrial businesses technical expertise; and communications strategy.
